A friend and her new husband were over for an evening of Euchre. We had just finished up
the last hand, so I stepped out into the front yard to check the sky. That's when I saw an
all too familiar sight. My old night nemesis, The Scavenger. Now I realize the craft I
have dubbed as such is likely not the same craft I see each time, east of my home.
However, it's not the specific object I'm referring to, it's where the object is and what
it's doing, that I'm referring to. It is always a flickering bright ball of amber colored
light, drifting at tree top level, and about twenty miles per hour in a northward
direction, toward the county landfill. Hence, the name, "The Scavenger". This
encounter was different from all the rest, though. I was prepared with a brand new video
camera, better suited for night time telephoto operation. As I ran back inside to grab my
camera, I shouted, "You've got to come out and see this!"Linda, my wife, followed me outside with our friend close behind. They
stood watching while I struggled to operate the, not too familiar, video camera in the
dark. Within a couple of minutes "Scavenger" passed behind the trees and out of
sight.
Only the next day did I learn what I had captured on tape. The
"Scavenger" was a disk shaped object. The brilliant light emanates from under
the craft, at times reflecting off the underside of the craft, revealing glimpses of it's
actual shape. Another characteristic we observed was the "barber pole" effect of
the swirling light. A dark diagonal area in the midst of the light could clearly be seen
rotating.
One curious after thought concerning this sighting. It was our
friend's first UFO sighting. She wasted no time getting outside to take a look. Her
husband, on the other hand, did not budge from his chair. I remember our friend telling us
some time ago, about her new husband's revelation concerning a close encounter he shared
with his mother when he was younger. He never revealed to her any details of the event.
She says he doesn't like to talk about it. Hmmm!
